| Q5: Should I breed or "stud out" my
GSP? A: We always recommend spaying/neutering your pet GSP. Ask yourself the reason you are even considering breeding your dog. If your primary motivation is to make some money, FORGET IT! Does your dog have something extraordinary to add to the gene pool of existing GSP's? Does (s)he have a title in the field, show ring, obedience, agility, etc.? Have you had your dog evaluated for genetic defects such as hip, shoulder, and elbow dysplasia, canine eye problems, cardiac problems such as SAS? Is your dog certified thyroid clear, free of von Willebrand's disease? Has (s)he been checked for brucellosis? Are you willing to take back any pups you produce that the new owners might not be able to keep at some point during their lives? Are you willing to lose sleep, money, time, and possibly your dog and/or the whole litter if something goes wrong? If you answered "NO" to any of these questions, then please reconsider breeding.
